The Sales Academy Competency Mapping Template for Sales Skills is a tool for sales managers and salespeople.

Its purpose is to help Sales Managers and their Salespeople improve sales performance by identifying areas where Coaching or Training of fundamental Sales Skills will have the most impact.

By comparing Required Sales Behaviours with those observed in the field, Sales Managers and Salespeople can identify gaps and agree a course of action to close them as quickly and easily as possible. Over time this will lead to more successful sales calls and ultimately more sales.

In order to develop themselves professionally, salespeople obviously want to focus on areas of their performance that can be improved. The most critical part of a salesperson’s day is when they are selling, face to face with customers and prospects. It is very difficult for salespeople to be objective about this area of their performance and ability as they are usually concentrating too hard on what is going on in the call. To be of real value, salespeople need granular measures, so that they can focus on specific areas of their sales skills.

 

The Competency Mapping Template is a simple, easy to use tool that directs the sales person’s attention to these critical areas and becomes the centrepiece for both salesperson and sales manager to use as a tool to help the salesperson improve the success ratio of their face to face sales calls. The salesperson can build up a long-term record of their critical selling techniques, skills and abilities and, demonstrate to themselves progress in the areas that they feel could be improved.
